About Me
My name is Aidan, and I am currently a senior at the University of Wyoming, poised to graduate in May 2026 with a BA in Political Science and a Minor in Public Law. Although I originally hail from Las Vegas, Nevada, I've proudly called Wyoming my home since 2018. Embracing the unique lifestyle and community here has enriched my educational journey and personal growth.
This website, ajohn182.com, was developed as part of my Sociology of the Family course. I view it not only as a requirement but also as a valuable asset for my future aspirations. Living in Wyoming has shaped my perspective and instilled in me the importance of engaging deeply with the world around me.
I believe in navigating life one step at a time, a belief that resonates with me through Proverbs 16:9 from the Christian Standard Bible: "A person's heart plans his way, but the LORD determines his steps." This wisdom guides my ambitions and actions as I move forward in my academic and professional pursuits, grounded firmly in the experiences that Wyoming has afforded me. I look forward to what lies ahead!
Exploring the Sociology of the Family: Courses and Research
This site explores the evolution of American familial structures from the 1950s nuclear "ideal" to today’s pluralistic reality. Emphasized particularly toward sociology students who want to know why marriage trends have shifted the way they have. Beyond the scope of the 'decline' of the nuclear family, the change in trends are more nuanced explanations in reality.
As economic shifts decouple marriage from financial survival, American family structures have evolved from rigid nuclear models toward a pluralistic, more inclusive definition of stability. This will be the basis of my research: How have families evolved from the 'ideal' family of the 1950s to the more diverse collections of familial structures seen in the present?
